What is an anchor?

An anchor institution is a business or organization that, due to its size and impact, acts as an economic engine for Broome County. We recognize that there are larger institutions — institutions that we might not necessarily consider to be local and independent — who would like to support our efforts. We want to make sure that everyone who would like to be involved in Be Local Broome can be!

All of our "Mammoth Level" businesses (businesses grossing more than $5M per year) automatically qualify to be considered anchors.

Anchor Benefits

While Be Local Broome serves local, independent businesses, we all stand to benefit when our local economy flourishes. Regions with strong local economies see improved workforce retention, resilience to broader economic strife, reduced environmental impact, and overall better quality of life. While membership fees from our anchors are considered charitable contributions, we offer certain benefits as a thank-you:

Immediate Benefits

  • Logo on our online anchor page
  • 5 complimentary tickets to each Be Local Broome event (4 per year)

  • Even if you are not a local, independent business, your employees will receive the "member employee" discount if they would like to apply for an individual membership

Benefits Coming Later in 2019

  • Listing as an anchor in our annual printed "Guide to Staying Local" (first edition to be printed in October 2019)
Anchor Cost

We ask that our anchors donate at least $750 or more annually for continued recognition, the same amount as our highest-paying business members.
