ABOUT BE LOCAL BROOME
What is Be Local Broome? Be Local Broome, a nonprofit, is a new local business alliance in Broome County, NY. Our mission is to foster a sustainable local economy in Broome County. We are a part of the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition (BRSC).
What do you do? We offer memberships to local, independent businesses, organizations, and nonprofits in Broome County. We help our members brand and advertise as local to Broome County, foster a sense of community around our local economy, and educate the public about why staying local is so important.
How long has the program been around? Be Local Broome began operations in August 2018 and formally launched in November 2018. We're brand new!
Where do you get your funding? Be Local Broome is a membership-based organization, which means that once the program is fully established, we will be funded by our membership. Currently, we are operating on a loan from BRSC, membership fees from our founding members, and early donations. We intend to stay accountable as we expand
Who is your board of directors? We currently share a board of directors with BRSC. You can find BRSC's list of directors here. Be Local Broome is also guided by our advisory board, which is comprised of 5-11 volunteers from our membership. At this time, any new member who is interested in serving on the advisory board may do so by indicating interest on their application.
